To Blog Or Not To Blog....

Over the holiday my sister Cindy, who shall now be known as "Blog-Ass", spent several hours working on her blog. She has a very interesting life that allows her to travel the world and the seven seas. Sweet dreams are made of these. So when she is home from travelling the world, she recounts her stories through her blog. To me that is what a blog should be about.
However, as my family observed, every time you turned around, Cindy was on the blog. It never failed...make Christmas bread, Cindy's on the blog, preparing a meal, Cindy's on the blog, cleaning up the meal, Cindy's on the blog, having a meaningful round-table discussion about the best fart you ever let...CINDY'S ON THE BLOG!!
It begs the question, where does life end and blogging begin? Even more profound; if a tree fell in the woods, would Cindy be there to blog about it?
In all seriousness, I enjoy blogging myself, however I rarely find the time, or maybe I have the time but I am too lazy to write about how I travelled to the grocery store, and there was a great deal on orange juice.
Maybe I could get a job from Cindy to help write all her interesting stories. She'ld probably pay me just 2 cents! Go ahead!!

What I'm Enjoying

This guy is amazing. I saw him doing commercials during the baseball playoffs, it's crazy how spot on his impersonations are.

Captain: for Illustration Friday

Captain

His eyes dull and weathered. His skin tanned and leathered by the sun. On the open waters, he was a god. On shore, just another wino with a sad story to tell. He longed for the days on the high seas, but after his battle with Mother Nature, his ship was no more. He was then sentenced and reduced to the shipyard, selling small catches of fish caught at the end of the pier (and the bottle) with his stolen Wal-Mart Zebco 717 pole. All he had left were memories of sunsets over infinite horizons, and an old hat he found one hazy morning washed upon the shore.

The Pussy Cat Song

Trust me, this song is really about a cat.

Art Space

This week I will be starting my student teaching experience at a charter school called ArtSpace. It seems like so long ago when the idea ever hit me to become an art teacher. I guess that I have been a teacher in some capacity for a while, just not at a school where I give grades, detentions, parent conferences, etc.
I am a little nervous, but still feel comfortable as I am very familiar with being in an education environment and working with kids. I am really excited, and happy that I found my way to Mars Hill College. Unlike at Ohio State, I feel like I am more than a number who pays tuition on time, I am a real person who has a life outside school. Anyway, they've been good to me, and I feel really supported as I enter my internship.
Your Chance
I am excited to be out in the world and spreading a positive message using my artwork. I know teaching is a hard job, doesn't pay that well, is very beaurocratic, and stressfull. But, it is an important job, and I like how no two days are ever the same, thanks to all the fresh ideas (or rotten drama) kids bring off the ol'yeller bus every morning.

If I can keep just one kid from looking like this.....
Trap
....it will all be worth it.

I drew/collaged this in a sketch book a few years ago. My friend Cynthina told me about Illustration Friday, and I felt this image worked for the theme of the week.
I am one of those people who held out for a long time saying, "I'll never get a cell phone." Then I got one, and now I don't remember what it was like to use a payphone, or a calling card, or to be stranded. Oh, yes I do... it was a pain in the kiester!!
Anyways, now that I think about it, I did this before I had a cellphone. It is kind of scary to think about 1984 and Big Brother watching you, and the Matrix. How does all of this technology affect us and our personal interactions? I try to not be paranoid, but it's hard sometimes when you ponder someone collecting an entire database of all of your conversations, every image you've looked at on the internet, what you are posting on your blog, and where you are right now. I guess I just have to believe I have nothing to hide. I believe whoever would be watching has a lot more important things to be watching like terrorists, corrupt polititions, and left-wing reporters. On that I'm out. Hi Homeland Security!!! Hi Tom Ridge!!! Hi Morpheous!!! I'll take the blue pill!!!
