I drew/collaged this in a sketch book a few years ago. My friend Cynthina told me about Illustration Friday, and I felt this image worked for the theme of the week.
I am one of those people who held out for a long time saying, "I'll never get a cell phone." Then I got one, and now I don't remember what it was like to use a payphone, or a calling card, or to be stranded. Oh, yes I do... it was a pain in the kiester!!
Anyways, now that I think about it, I did this before I had a cellphone. It is kind of scary to think about 1984 and Big Brother watching you, and the Matrix. How does all of this technology affect us and our personal interactions? I try to not be paranoid, but it's hard sometimes when you ponder someone collecting an entire database of all of your conversations, every image you've looked at on the internet, what you are posting on your blog, and where you are right now. I guess I just have to believe I have nothing to hide. I believe whoever would be watching has a lot more important things to be watching like terrorists, corrupt polititions, and left-wing reporters. On that I'm out. Hi Homeland Security!!! Hi Tom Ridge!!! Hi Morpheous!!! I'll take the blue pill!!!
I really, really like this.

ReplyDeleteYo! Good seeing you again. Sorry I wasn't such good company - I wasn't feeling good and took some medicine that really made me tired. Alas.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, welcome to Illustration Friday! Nicely done. I really dig the layers and the text. Very cool, indeed. Also really enjoyed your accompanying thoughts. I too was one of the people that held out to get a cell phone. Now, I feel hard-wired to the world.
